As society becomes more mobile as well as global, location data is becoming increasingly relevant in the applications that we use. As Jimmy Buffet once famously said, “Without geography, you’re nowhere.” But what is geospatial data? First, we have to understand the meaning of spatial data, which generally refers to the location, shape, and size of an object (like a building or a road) in space. Geospatial data, which is a subset of spatial data, refers to any data that is created or captured that contains an associated geographical component within its metadata.
